Catching Up

It's a beautiful day and it started with a 5 mile walk at Creve Coeur Lake park. During the walk, Patty and I solved all the world's problems. You're welcome. Ok, we didn't really, but it's always a fun discussion and we feel great when we're done.

Around the House

I'm running out of clothes, so I guess that's a sign I need to do laundry. Housework around here doesn’t occur on any kind of schedule. Stuff just seems to present itself as needing "doing" and then I'll do it, usually. Yes, I'd rather be quilting ?

Black Cherries & Long Arm Projects

Black Cherries Center

Not much action on "Black Cherries" but I did add the setting triangles to the center square. Small progress I know, but I committed to doing one thing on this UFO (Unfinished Object) and this is my one thing.

Another project I started is the September AIO quilt from Joyce Lundrigan. AIO stands for All in One which is a club designed for long arm quilters. Members receive a project four times a year that includes the quilt pattern, long arm quilting lessons and several computerized quilting pattern designs.

Red and Butter

I enjoy the projects because I get to learn new techniques while creating a beautiful project. The quilt patterns are quick to complete so you can get to the quilting part fast. I'm calling this one "Red and Butter". Of course, it will be awhile before I get to the quilting part on this one since the custom quilt is on the machine right now.

My next step on this quilt is to assemble the rows and add the borders. Before I do that, I see a couple mistakes on the rotation of the nine patch blocks. Can you see them? I'll need to fix those before I proceed.

Moda U Sampler Quilt

Basting is done and I started the SID work on the custom Moda U sampler. I don't have a name for this quilt yet. The top is from a BOM (Block of the Month) Moda University Club I participated in around 2005. Still, it needs a better name. Any suggestions??

Now that the top is basted, I'm working the SID stitching from the bottom up. There are no rules on top-down or bottom-up. Generally, I roll back to the top and work my way back to the bottom. Then I roll back to the top and start the design stitching. This seems inefficient to me. Instead, I'm trying the bottom-up method for the SID work. Then I can complete the design stitching from the top, back to the bottom.

This step takes me an awfully long time. It's tedious and slow. I may be on this step for another week. There is a lot to do on this quilt. The only thing that keeps me moving forward is the promise of starting the design stitching.

Do you name your quilts? If yes, how do you come up with your names?

Until next time,
