Favorite Sewlebrity
In a way this topic ties into yesterday. When I spoke of the quilting community and the tradition of sharing knowledge, it occurs to me that "Sewlebrities", those icons of our industry, are the most giving of all.
Accessible
The thing that strikes me the most about quilting sewlebrities is that they are SO accessible. They aren't like the Hollywood actors or sports stars that shun the public. They are stars in our industry, but they don't keep themselves apart from us. It seems all of them interact and participate in the industry.
I have had the pleasure of taking classes with Marianne Fons and Liz Porter, Eleanor Burns, Linda Jenkins, Diane Gaudynski and many others. At various quilting events I was able to meet Nancy Zieman, Alex Anderson, Barbara Brackman, Carol Bryer-Fallert, Jennifer Chiaverini, Tula Pink and Ricky Tims. I could go on, but you get the idea. Quilting sewlebrities are VERY accessible.
Sharing Success
And, they share their knowledge. I recently attended Quilts Inc.'s event, Threads of Success. A conference event bringing industry hopefuls together with today's industry leaders and designed for budding entrepreneurs. Many of the instructors said no one was there to help them when they started. They wanted to share the knowledge they gained through trial and sometimes error. Event chair, Cheryl Sleboda did a fantastic job bringing together a knowledgeable group of people and a help-filled agenda of topics.
I learned so much and am so grateful to them, I'm naming all of them here to say "THANK YOU".
Alex Anderson, Charlotte Angotti, Natalie Barnes, Ricky Brooks, Meg Cox, Kimberly Einmo, Dr. Elizabeth Gard, Morna McEver Golletz, Linda J. Hahn, Jennifer Keltner, Andy Knowlton, Ebony Love, Heather McFarlane, Margaret Moorehead, Sue O'Very, Rhonda Pierce, Tula Pink, Heidi Pridemore, Gene Reynolds, Nancy Sauer, Cheryl Sleboda and Christa Watson.
All of them, EVERY SINGE ONE OF THEM, gave. Knowledge. Time.Energy. Encouragement. Guidance.
I don't have a favorite. I love them all!
