On the Design Wall

There's always something on the design wall. The funny thing about this project is that it is the first quilt kit I ever bought.

First Kit

The year was 2000 so it's twenty years old now. I never started it so "officially" it has never been a UFO. But, I'm cleaning things out and starting to finish older projects. I still like the pattern and now that I have a long arm machine, I thought it might be a good one for practice.

The prints are woodsy and designed by Holly Taylor for Moda.I know I liked the prints and the large star design. The pattern is Winter'sStar by Duck Soup. It seems the pattern is out of print now. I did find a kitwith the pattern on ebay. The colors are blues and golds.

Easy Pattern

It's an easy one to assemble. The pieces are mostly squares and half triangles. I admit I changed the pattern some. The star points can be more easily constructed as flying geese units. Since there was enough fabric to make the change, I did. I found a nice folk-style plaid for the backing in my stack of large-yardage fabric. And, there's enough. Always a concern when digging through the stash for fabric.

The Quilting

I've decided to practice some custom quilting on this one. It's small and will make a nice wall hanging for my kitchen. Once the top iscompleted, I'll add it to the stack of tops I have ready for quilting. This onemight get done sooner since it already has a back and binding.

What's on your design wall right now?
