Favorite Sewing Presser Feet
The main tool of my trade is my sewing machine and there are several accessories that make my job easier. Among them are the many presser feet available.
The #37
The #37 foot is also known as the quarter-inch-seam foot or the quilting foot. It is my most frequently used presser foot by far. The more you use your machine and the associated presser feet, the more you train your eye to see the proper alignment for achieving the coveted perfect ¼" seam. For me, the #37 foot is the tool that is essential for lining up the fabric edge to the position needed to get the right seam width.
The #10
A lesser used foot but still important for me is the #10 top stitch or edging foot. I use this foot when making pillow cases. I top stitch the edge of the cuff so that it lays flat. My other use for this foot is for stitch-in-the-ditch quilting. By placing the "fence" against the high edge of the piecing and adjusting the needle position, I can align my needle to hide the stitching in the ditch and maintain a straight line.
The #88
My newest presser foot is the #88 binder attachment foot. I haven't used it yet but I'm looking forward to learning how to use this foot. It is designed for attaching non-pre-folded bias tape to the edge of quilt or other project. It feeds the binding strip as you stitch it down. My hope is that it will be a time saver for me when attaching bindings to my quilt projects. Of course, there will always be those special projects where a hand-stitched binding is preferred. However, machine attached bindings could be a game changer for the coming year.
