Least Favorite Color – Humm
In yesterday's post, I mentioned that I LOVE color. All colors. So, today's topic, least favorite color, doesn't apply to me, at all.
All Colors Can Work
I always felt that any color can work. It depends on what other colors are combined with it. When I started quilting, I read Jinny Beyer's book, Color Confidence. In her book she demonstrates how any two colors can be shaded through a range of colors and work together. If you struggle with color, this is a good book to add to your library.
Even those muddy colors that most people take a pass on canbe just the right color for a quilt. It is how you use color that makes a particularcolor pop or recede into the background. I love playing with color and seeinghow different colors interact with each other.
For example, my picture at the beginning of this post is a grouping of fabrics I purchased for a class. All the colors are muted and muddy. When I showed my fabrics to the instructor at the beginning of the class, she gave me an extremely skeptical look. She just couldn't see my vision. As I worked on the blocks, she started to see where I was going with the quilt. The project is Jenny Haskin's Beyond the Color Purple. And, mine has no purple at all. I call it A Compliment to Purple.
Yes, It's another UFO in my collection of UFOs. Please don'tjudge me. I have a plan for next year. I promise.
Color Play
I say, play with the color. It might not be right for thisquilt, but it could be the exact right color for another quilt. Experiment.Have Fun!
